Frequently Asked Questions

What is WISE?

The WISE is a Living and Learning Village designed specifically for first- and second-year women majoring in science or engineering at NC State. WISE brings first and second-year female students and upper-class mentors together in Lee Hall, with the goal of enhancing their academic success and providing them with positive experiences as they live and study with others who share common interests.

How do I apply for WISE?

Apply online starting in February. Remember that you must also submit a separate University Housing application. Both applications are available in MyPack Portal.

Does my preferred roommate have to also be in WISE?

Yes.  Everyone who lives in the WISE Village must be accepted into the program.

Which majors can live in WISE Village?

WISE is open to first and second-year women in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Natural Resources, College of Sciences, and the College of Textiles.

Is WISE just for first-year students?

It is made up primarily of first-year students, but also includes second-year students and upper-class WISE Resident Mentors and RAs.

Where is WISE physically located?

WISE is located on the top four floors (6-9) of Lee Hall. Lee Hall is a suite-style co-ed residential building; the WISE floors are single-gender, while floors 1-5 are co-ed (suites are all single-gender). WISE Village also has dedicated space on the first floor (view 360°)

Why live in WISE?

The WISE Village is a supportive community that offers a variety of benefits for first- and second-year female students. In addition to living on the same floors in Lee Hall, participants are also provided with upper-class resident mentors.

When will selections for Fall 2019 be made?

Selection announcements begin in mid-March and continue until WISE is full.

If you have more questions, please feel free to contact the WISE Director.
