Why did you join Global Village?

“Studying a double major across two colleges of science, along with student research provided great restraints to my free time and ability to study abroad for a full semester. Having my dual citizenship to Sweden, I wanted an opportunity to meet others and practice my Swedish. Although Alexander did not have any Swedes at first, I’ve been able to learn exponentially outside of my majors and network internationally regardless of free time.”

Would you recommend the village to future students? Why or why not?

“Absolutely, Global village provides a dynamic, never-fail network of diverse friends, cultures, and nations that functions as a family in support of emotional health, academic standing, and global respect and understanding as students prepare for the professional world or in furthering their education.“

Describe your best village moment.

“Despite countless road trips through the village, cups of culture, late night hallway discussions, coffee talks, and delicious fusion-meals cooked in the basement; my favorite moments lie in the countless friends (family-members) I have met through Alexander and stayed with or traveled with back home. To China and Thailand, Costa Rica and Argentina, I was met with an eye-opening influx of culture, warmth, love, and enrichment. The Global Village has truly changed my life.”

Anything else you would like to add to your village experience?

“Global Village is an absolutely brilliant community forged by enlightening and informed debate and discussion between nations, cultural exchanges of customs, foods, and music. Friendships lifelong, and advantageous to international travel are built by the open door policy and the welcoming and accepting family-like community.”

Why did you join Global Village?

“I joined the Global Village to learn more about other cultures and to develop friendships with people from all over the world.”

Would you recommend the village to future students? Why or why not?

“I would highly recommend the global village to incoming students. There are so many fun and engaging events, and the international students are incredibly nice and sociable. I made many friends in Alexander and I learned so much about other cultures while simultaneously finding my place at NC State.“

Describe your best village moment.

“One of my greatest Alexander moments was at the very beginning of the year, during the Moonlight Howl and Run. I participated in the trek with a Hungarian and a Dutch friend. We decided to walk the course, as it was a nice night and we wanted to explore some of NC State’s beautiful campus. During our walk, we had incredibly profound and enlightening discussions. The language barrier was nearly nonexistent as my European companions articulated their thoughts, each with a unique type of articulation.”

“Alexander is an amazing place that I happily called home and I made a number of quality friends. I would highly recommend Alexander to anyone with a love of other cultures and a desire to meet not only interesting international students but amazing individuals.”
