Village Benefits

The Exploratory Studies Village is an award-winning living and learning community for first-year Exploratory Studies students. The village is housed exclusively in Tucker, Owen, and Bowen halls. Village members live and learn with other students who are also exploring their academic passions. Living with other first-year students who are experiencing the same exploration process helps village members to adjust to the social and academic challenges of college.  The village also supports college transition and enhances the learning experience of residents through creative programming, peer support, and staff and faculty engagement.

  • Location, Location, Location! It doesn’t get much better than living steps from academic buildings, Talley Student Union, the Bookstore, Campus Cinema, the Brickyard, Fountain Dining Hall, Carmichael Fitness Center, Student Health, and much more.
  • Tucker and Owen halls are conveniently located next to Holmes Hall which houses academic advisor offices, classrooms, and the 24-hour service desk.
  • Peer support from the Resident Mentors (RMs) and Resident Advisors (RAs), who encourage community building, academic excellence, and a positive social environment.
  • Great programs and traditions such as Battle for the Beach, Leadership Potential Retreats, Community Outreach and Reflection (COR) programs, walk-in tutoring, and the year-end banquet.
