About Black Male Initiative

The Black Male Initiative (BMI) is a learning community that promotes brotherhood and develops leaders through academic success, personal growth, professional development, and self-responsibility.  The Initiative is open to anyone who has experience with or interest in understanding and combating challenges facing African-American males in today’s society. Housed in Avent-Ferry Complex, the program provides a variety of educational and social experiences for participants.

The original program was known as the African-American Male Initiative, which was changed to the Black Male Initiative as an effort to create a community focused on cultural awareness, understanding, and experiences respective of the entire African Diaspora.
